Hawksmoor (London)

Top Picks: Bone Marrow, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Beef Dripping Chips

Recommended by B's coworker, Hawksmoor (Seven Dials) was our first meal in London and by far the most memorable.

We came around 5:30 for the Express Menu - 23 GBP for 2 dishes or 26 for 3.

Started off with the Doddington Caesar Salad, which was nice and different 'cause it was the whole leaf and good dressing. But WHY didn't I order the Bone Marrow which was simply mind blowing. Luckily our friend let us try a bite. It was my first time eating bone marrow and it was DELICIOUS. The caramelized onions on top paired with the mushy bone marrow - perfect combination that reminds me of French onion soup. Even better eaten on top of the crispy toast, which was slightly burnt and buttery. The presentation was also nice - a large portion sliced lengthwise instead of in chunks which imo looks much less appetizing.

For the main, we all got the Rib Eye. Sauces cost an extra 3GBP so my plate was literally just a piece of meat. It was very tender. For the side, I got the Triple Cooked Chips - thick cut, crispy outside, fluffy inside and slightly salty - Yum! But even better was the Beef Dripping Potatoes/Chips , which is potato chunks, crispy outside, fluffy inside. You won't find that anywhere else! The ketchup also tastes good with a slight Worcestershire sauce flavor.

I was too full for dessert but I did try a bite of the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was heavenly! Also my first time trying; I had always imagined it to be super sweet and caramel-y, but the texture was more like a warm lava cake, moist but not too dense, with just the right amount of toffee/caramel flavor.

The bone marrow and sticky toffee pudding were so good that we had to return for lunch a few days after to eat it again (and that's saying a lot, with the limited time in London and the abundance of good food choices!)

This time, we tried the Hawksmoor Hamburger (cooked medium rare, with blue cheese. very big portion) and the Whole Sea Bream - very nicely cooked. The sides were Buttered Greens (yum! Sprout Tops -more of a thicker leaf, the leaves of brussels sprouts), baked sweet potato (two sides for burger), and beef dripping potatoes again.

Good dining environment, good service and good food all around. Highly recommend this restaurant!
